Emotional Health and Wellness of Bishops and Bishop Spouses Study
Funded by the College for Bishops and CREDO
Institute, Inc., this research is being conducted by professors and doctoral
students at the University
of Cincinnati to study
the wellness and life balance of Episcopal bishops and their spouses.
The goal is to better understand the well-being of bishops and their spouses by
applying theory and research in the work-home area. Research has
documented encroachments of work upon family and family upon work, as well as
the positive enrichment that sometimes exists. It is important to assess
the extent to which encroachment and enrichment impact the lives and well-being
of bishops and their spouses.
Specifically, this project has a three-fold
purpose:
- To
address the needs of the College for Bishops and its collaborative
partners for a greater understanding of well-being and work-home
relationships among bishops and their spouses
- To
advance academic understanding of work-home dynamics among new and
existing leaders across the life course
- To
gain a more current, 21st century perspective of the well-being of bishops
and their spouses.
The objective of researchers at the University of Cincinnati
is to produce a publication from this analysis, and to extend the work-family
literature through use of the dyadic unit analysis method, approaching
work-family conflict and enrichment from the perspective of the bishop family
unit.
